Internet socket is an essential component of a complete cable system, providing the ability to connect various equipment to local computer networks.

The RJ-45 socket is a standard option that is widely used for connecting network devices. It includes a connector designed to be connected to a network cable. Typically, there is only one connector, but double models are also available, and in some cases, the quantity can reach up to four. The connectors are used to connect the socket to a patch panel or to establish a connection with a computer.

Main types and features of RJ-45 sockets

RJ-45 sockets can be purchased in several variations, and modern models exist in the following types:

  1. 8P8C: This is the most common type of RJ-45 socket. It has 8 positions and 8 contacts (8P8C - 8 positions, 8 contacts). This type is used for Ethernet connections of categories 5, 5e, 6, and 6a.
  2. Single-row or dual-row, depending on the number of positions and contacts.

It is recommended to have a specialist install the device as it is a complex process that requires specific knowledge and skills.

The purpose of an RJ-45 socket

The RJ-45 computer socket is an essential element for the efficient and reliable operation of a cable system. In home networks, devices with two ports are often used: one for connecting to the communication cable and the other for connecting to a patch panel. The socket module establishes contact with the twisted pair cable, which transmits information in the network.

If your home device has an Ethernet port, it is recommended to use the RJ-45 socket to connect to the computer network via cable, even if you have Wi-Fi available. This is especially important if you have multiple devices in your home and there is a large volume of data transmission.

Buying an RJ-45 socket helps alleviate network congestion since even the most powerful router may not always provide sufficient internet connection speed to all devices. Additionally, these devices can be used to connect Wi-Fi access points as needed.

Therefore, it is recommended to install dual RJ-45 sockets in the following locations:

  1. Behind small televisions with two connectors (at least one).
  2. Behind large TV devices (at least two).
  3. Next to a network printer.
  4. At a workstation.

This way, you can ensure optimized and comfortable use of computer equipment with a good internet signal.

Features of installing RJ-45 sockets

To purchase RJ-45 sockets, it is necessary to run the cable to the installation location. This can be done in two ways: using an open method, which involves using plastic boxes with removable covers, or a closed method (creating special grooves in which the cable is laid).

Another popular option is cable routing on the wall. The excess end is looped inside in a circle to prevent conductor breakage. Then, the outer protective insulation of the cable is removed, exposing the end by about 5-6 cm. Each twisted pair of wires needs to be neatly straightened.

To connect the cable, the faceplate of the RJ-45 socket is removed, and the securing cover is taken off. Each wire is inserted into the corresponding connector according to the color code and secured with the cover. After completing the process, the protruding ends of the wires are neatly trimmed.

When using the open connection method, the socket housing should be mounted in such a way that the connector is facing downward, while the cable entry hole is facing upward.

In the case of closed installation, it is important to install the device in a specially prepared niche and secure it with brackets.

After completion, it is necessary to check the correctness of the RJ-45 socket connection. If it is functioning properly, only the faceplate needs to be attached.
