TV socket is a type of device that is commonly used for connecting an antenna or cable to a television. It is equipped with connectors that enable the transmission of analog or digital radio signals from the source to the television.

Main types of TV sockets

TV sockets can be of two main types: terminal and pass-through. The connectors are also classified based on their purpose: for connecting terrestrial TV, for radio (R), satellite TV (SAT). Combined types can also be found on the market.

Terminal sockets serve as the endpoint in a network where the final device (e.g., television) is connected. They have an impedance of 75 ohms, allowing for the transmission of high-definition signals and reducing the possibility of interference. They are used for television signals, satellite signals, and video signals.

Pass-through TV cable sockets receive and transmit signals to other connection points. For this purpose, a coaxial cable is used between the connectors. The device is equipped with two sockets, one for input and one for output. The television is connected to the input socket, while the output is connected to a cable directed towards another device.

Combined sockets for satellite antennas have multiple different connectors and allow not only cable connections but also the inclusion of regular devices. They are available in various variations: double, triple, and even quadruple.

Types of connection schemes

To process the signal from a TV socket, a splitter is often used. This compact device performs the function of division, which is necessary for transmitting digital electrical signals. The operation of this device is based on splitting the signal into identical packets, which are then sent to the input connectors of electrical devices.

The device is designed in such a way that the signal is transmitted with the same quality to all connected televisions, regardless of the quantity. This means that there is no need to use separate antennas for each device inside the apartment.

To connect the TV-R-SAT socket, one of two methods is used. The first method is the "star" scheme. In this case, the old cable is removed, and a new one is laid through the splitter.

Advantages of this method include:

  1. Improved flexibility.
  2. High reliability.
  3. Simplified maintenance.

The loop scheme involves connecting the new cable to the existing one, forming a "loop." This system eliminates the need for complete replacement of elements, and the connection is faster and easier.
